RIM Partners With 7digital, Means PlayBook Users Will Have An MP3 Store Of Their Own
We are still unsure of exactly when RIM is going to release the BlackBerry Playbook, though there is some speculation that it is going to arrive on April 10th. Of course, in the meantime we are still getting little bits and pieces of official information from RIM and this latest bit comes in the form of a pre-loaded music store.

According to the details of the announcement, RIM has partnered with 7digital and that means that all PlayBook tablets will come pre-loaded with the 7digital Music Store. Well, more specific, all PlayBook tablets in the US and Canada will have the 7digital Music Store available. In addition, “further international” roll-out was promised for later in 2011. And while I initially had thought that I would have preferred to see Amazon MP3, after reading the details — it seems that the 7digital offering will be rather competitive and really — an MP3 is an MP3 regardless of the name of the shop where you buy.
The 7digital Music Store is said to be offering over 13 million tracks at “competitive prices” though nothing specific was given as to what those prices woud be aside from that the pricing will be listed according to your local currency. In terms of the quality, these tracks will be 320kbps MP3s. And similar to the other online music download sites, 7digital will have individual tracks as well as complete albums available. Otherwise, there is also a recommendation engine as well as the ability to search for and also preview tracks before actually committing to a purchase.
“The 7digital Music Store is a perfect complement to the high-performance BlackBerry PlayBook, providing users with fast searches and downloads, and a slick interface that makes it very easy to discover, purchase and enjoy music,” said Alistair Mitchell, Vice President, BBM Platform & Integrated Services.
With that, RIM will be showing off the PlayBook along with the 7digital Music Store during South by South West which means that some of you planning to attend will be able to get a look at that “slick interface.”
