Any minute before or after this blog post goes live, Sony should be bringing down the PlayStation Network for some planned maintenance. It sounds like they’re really going to town on whatever they’re doing, as the service will be down for a whopping 11 hours. During that time, users won’t be able to access pretty much any PSN service that they’re used to.
Sony is advising that the following stuff will be impossible for the next 11 hours:
- Signing into PSN
- Playing games online
- Using the PSN store
Should be a disappointment for anybody who’s got the day off today and was looking forward for a day of fragging noobs on Killzone 3 or something, but I guess they’ve got to do this stuff sometime. They don’t say what will happen to the movie rentals – but I don’t see any reason why that stuff would work.
When trying to log into PSN, you may see a message that says something to the effect of “The PlayStation Network has been suspended.” In their post on the Sony website, they go through great lengths to make it be known that that does not mean that your account has been suspended or banned. So, if you get that message, chill out.
I don’t know the track record of console manufacturers, but in my MMO playing days, when a company took a game down for maintenance, it wasn’t uncommon for the servers to be down longer than expected. So, be advised that you still may not be gaming in 11 hours.

After everything that has happened with PSN…I think I’ll go look at an XBox today. This is the 2nd time in two weeks that we cannot take full advantage of what we pay for when we purchase a game for $50-$70. They hype up the “multi-player” experience, to have it only work 50% off the time. You get in 2-3 good games, and then the server dies. You’re in a party with friends, and then you all get separated after 15 minutes. It’s ridiculous,
PSN can’t even give us a heads up when they are going to take the server down for an entire day? They find time to put all of this other useless info. in the corner of my screen, but not once have I seen an update that says ” PSN will be down for maintenance next week.” I would pay attention to that, and alot of people probably wouldn’t get so mad when they pull the rug out unexpectedly. PSN will probably start charging soon, but honestly, do they expect us to believe it would make anything better for us, the customer?

Its not 10 poeple who are signed on on the psn network but millions. nobody that i know did not know that psn was going down for 11 hours. what the f.ck are they going to do in 11 hours, making a whole new webside, with my brother makes in mayby 5 hours hahaha.

Well, that is disappointing, I was looking forward to play FIFA 11 with the Champions league at full potential. I guess I’ll be watching Tottenham’s game vs Milan today.. then off to the city to a Good Charlotte Concert.

Not sure if we are seeing some Qriocity crossover – but since the US store came back up, I can’t see any movies or tv shows any more. Only games…
I expect a PS software update shortly if this is long term to give us Qriocity for video like thy recently did for music.
Of course it might only be ‘half-up’ ;-)

Why can’t people cool it and not have to freak out because PlayStation is under maintence? I know people have no lives and nothing better to do, and I do understand they can not just pull it out just then and waste other peoples time, So my point is, is that you get free service for PS3 and Xbox you have to pay. Let them do their thing.

Dude, you are so right, i just bought crysis 2 (AWESOME gama btw,) and i was really happy, because i had a couple days off. But then PSN failed, one again, and I can’t say i was really happy ’bout it, they srsly has to change it, or I WILL buy a xbox,’cause a friend of me has a xbox 360 and their online works always.so, sony, fix it or you will lose, it think 30% of your customers.
