iOS 5 for iPad 2, iPhone 5 & All the Other iOS Devices to be Announced Next Month?

The iPad 2 is just about ready to hit stores but it won’t launch with a totally new iOS version. Sure it’s coming with iOS 4.3 on board but we’re all waiting to see what Apple has in store for the future of its iOS devices when it comes to its mobile operating system. iOS 5 is the next iOS version and word on the street is that Apple will hold another special media event in a few weeks, at some point in early April, to show the world the new features of iOS 5.

Apple launched iOS 4 back in April 2010, but the new OS was only available in June for the iPhones and iPod touches while iPad owners had to wait until November to be able to enjoy iOS 4.x features. Similarly, Apple could announce iOS 5 to the world in April 2011, but only release it in June/July when the new iPhone 5 hits.

The news comes all the way from Germany and it’s suggested that Apple has already planned a special media event for iOS 5 which will take place on April 14 or 15 right on Apple’s campus. An April iOS 5 announcement is very plausible considering that Apple will surely want to have as many iOS 5-ready apps as possible on iPhone 5 launch date. After all, just recently, at the iPad 2 event, Steve Jobs made sure he pointed out to the world that there are just about 100 Honeycomb apps available for Android 3.0 tablets. And Apple will probably want to get developers on board as early as possible to start using the new features of iOS 5 in new apps so the new iPhone 5 has plenty of iOS 5 apps on launch.

What will iOS 5 bring us? There are plenty of requests from iOS users but we can’t really tell what’s coming. We expect NFC support, if all those iPhone 5 NFC rumors are true, but also a lot of updates that would make iOS even more competitive in the smartphone business. We’ll certainly cover the iOS 5 launch event as it happens, but in the mean time, let us hear what you want to see it offer.
