Apple Rolling Out Carrier Setting Update For The iPhone, Brings Verizon iPhone Up To Version "Verizon 10.1"

While some are expecting Apple to roll-out iOS 4.3 for GSM iPhones at 10AM PST this morning, those with a Verizon iPhone are being greeted with a small update of their own. Or at least until we learn otherwise, we believe this one to be Verizon only. Except the update for the Verizon iPhone users is not quite as exciting as iOS 4.3.

The update is simply a “Carrier Settings” update and is small and quick to install. Once the update has run its course, the Carrier version will be listed as Verizon 10.1, which you can check by going to Settings -> General – > About and then scrolling down to Carrier.

With that, the update is offered once you plug your phone into iTunes and there are few details as to what if anything has changed or been added. The pop-up notification if the general notification message which reads as follows;

“An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to install it now?”

And once you click the “Download and Update” button the process is over in just a few seconds and ends with a confirmation message that the update has been completed. That said, the original notification pop-up does offer a “Learn More” button however that does not offer much in the way of more.

In fact, it takes you to the Apple Support Page which is titled “About carrier settings updates in iTunes” which has last been updated on February 16, 2011. In other words, nothing new as of today. That aside though, while I usually hate to update something when I have no idea what is being updated, I decided to take one for the team this morning. Anyway, while my iPhone seems to be working just fine, I will be hitting the interwebs and trying to dig up a bit more dirt, but in the meantime, the update seems safe enough.
