New iPad 2 Leak Shows Release Date & Cheaper Price on Top of Specs & Features; Amazon Germany Does the Deed
First we see images of the new Apple tablet and now we get release dates, prices and some specs and features. If we keep it up we might not need an official introduction anymore. Earlier today we’ve seen leaked images originating from China that showed the iPad 2 and now we’re looking at a new kind of leak, the more believable kind, an Amazon listing.

Amazon is known for listing certain devices ahead of launch and its German arm did exactly that today. Amazon Germany revealed specs and features for the device but also pricing details and release dates, which is quite interesting. In the mean time the page you see above has been taken down, and we won’t expect any clarification on the matter from either Amazon or Apple.
But let’s look at what the listings shows: an Apple iPad 2 that will offer you 16GB of storage space, the same 9.7-inch display, a 1.2GHz processor (is it a dual-core one?) Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, Thunderbolt support, camera and Bluetooth. According to the web page above the device will cost you 499 Euros and will be available to order on March 17.
Earlier today I also showed you 10 specs and features I deem important for Apple’s tablet-selling success. Without getting into them again, I’ll remind them to you very quickly: no Retina Display, dual cameras with FaceTime support, dual-core processor, better graphics, more RAM, more ports (Thunderbolt included), slimmer overall design, same or better battery life, iOS 5 support, better prices and a close release date.
Well the Amazon listing above shows us that some of those 10 specs and features are indeed available on the iPad 2. A faster, although not-yet-known if sporting two cores, processor, Thunderbolt support, camera for FaceTime video chatting, a cheaper price (we’re looking at an entry-level Wi-Fi + 3G model that costs 499 Euros, although we won’t get excited about that yet) and a much sooner than expected release date.
All we need now is for Steve Jobs (or whoever will take the stage) to start confirming all these details. We’ve got a little over an hour to go, folks, so stick around for live coverage of the event, subscribe to our feed and keep following us on Twitter to get all the iPad 2 action.
