HTC ChaCha Will Get An Extra Cha When It Comes Available In Spain

HTC Learns Spanish, Decides It Will Be Best To Rebrand The ChaCha As The ChaChaCha In Spain

While some are most likely still chuckling at the name of one of the recently announced Facebook phones from HTC, things may have gone from bad to worse. The handset is the ChaCha and as it turns out, that name may not be the nicest in Spanish.

In fact, as it was described to us, to say ChaCha would be to belittle someone or just in general — to be disrespectful. That said though, from what we can tell ChaCha means maid, which does not sound all that bad. Anyway, going under the original bit that ChaCha is a bad term, one could not have anyone using a not so nice term every time they speak about their phone.

Given that, what is HTC to do, well, as it turns out they are going to rebrand the device in Spain. And what better to do than simply add another Cha. Yup, the HTC ChaCha will be known as the HTC ChaChaCha when it comes available in Spain.

That said, if you want to get really juvenile here, the ChaChaCha term reminds me of a silly song from childhood, which for those who know what I am referring to may get a chuckle, Otherwise, somethings are better left unsaid and to the imagination.

Bottom line here, HTC seems to be having trouble with this particular handset. First people poke fun at the general idea of an Android smartphone with a Facebook button — can you say this will be a device that probably NEVER get a software update. And then they are sued over the ChaCha term by the ChaCha.com website.

Maybe HTC should just go back to the drawing board here and come up with a totally new name for the ChaCha, one that would work for all markets and one that would not be subject to a lawsuit before it is even in the hands of the public.
