Acer Aspire One D255E Netbook Now Available With Amazon

Intel may have just recently, as of yesterday, announced their dual-core Atom N570 processors for netbooks but that has not stopped Acer from getting a new model out and available. And coincidentally, while Intel mentioned several manufacturers by name, they failed to include Acer in that list.

That aside though, the new netbook from Acer is the Aspire One D255E, which arrives with the dual-core 1.66GHz Intel Atom N570 processor and a netbook standard sized 10.1 inch (1024 x 600) display. Still, while nice to see, this model still bears close resemblance to another Aspire One D255 which featured a dual-core 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor.

Other features of the new Aspire One D255E include 1GB of RAM, 250GB (5400PM) hard drive, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a mono speaker, headphone and microphone jack, 1.3 megapixel webcam and a 6-cell 4400 mAh battery that is said to be able to offer “up to” 8 hours of run time.

Moving on and there is also three USB 2.0 ports, VGA, Ethernet, memory card reader, multi-gesture touchpad with support for circular-motion scrolling, pinch-action zoom and page flip as well as an 84 key keyboard that is 93 percent full sized. Last in terms of features, the D255E comes with Windows 7 Starter.

And perhaps the most critical point for some — the price. The Amazon listing has the Aspire One D255E priced at $329.99 which is noted as coming with free Super Saver Shipping. But then again, you can also get an (almost the same) D255 with a slightly slower processor for quite a bit less (around $60). And it comes down to that, do you want/need the latest and greatest or will a slightly older and less expensive model be able to meet your needs. If you ask us, all netbooks are going to be on the underperforming side and given that we would probably go with the less expensive model if it were our money.
