Motorola Planning Seven Inch Tablet, Variety Of Atrix-Style Phones [Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha Gives Some Details On Upcoming Motorola Products]

Considering that it hasn’t been all that long since we started hearing about the Motorola Xoom, it’s a bit of a surprise to hear Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha start dishing out at the Morgan Stanley Media And Telecom Conference on Motorola’s next step so soon. But what he had to say will impress most anybody, with tales of new phones, and tablets in larger, smaller…and cheaper.

While Motorola isn’t specifically unhappy with the sales numbers on the Motorola Xoom, calling them “a good start”, it seems that Jha et al has kind of seen that the economy is still best described as ” a flaming wreck”, and thus it’s going to be worth their time to keep the prices down a skosh. Thus, there’s some mention of other Motorola tablets in smaller sizes, specifically, a seven and an eight inch tablet. While they likely won’t be called Xoom (maybe they’ll be the Xip and the Xing?), they will work much the same way, just be slightly smaller of screen. The seven inch is actually scheduled for “later this year”, while others including some 10, 11 and 12 inch models, were set to follow later.

And for those of you currently digging on the Motorola Atrix, well, you’ll be happy to know that Motorola digs on it just as much as you do, and will thus be poised to launch a few different models in the same vein. You’ve already heard about the Webtop functionality coming along with Motorola smartphones, so you know there’s a whole slew of new models in the wings.

Motorola is really expanding its product offerings, frankly; between the slew of new smartphones and the array of new tablets in various sizes looking to come out, they clearly mean to be a player in the portable electronics market. It will remain to be seen, though, if they can differentiate themselves from the vast array of other tablets in the field–not to mention the slew of smartphones out there already. I’m definitely looking forward to more specifics on Motorola’s new line, and hopefully, we’ll see them soon.
