Gmail Outage: Lost Messages & Contacts

Google is Investigating Lost Emails & Contacts Issue Affecting 0.29% of Users; Where's Our Mail?

This is probably a rare scenario, but with the big userbase, even a small hiccup in Google’s Gmail and Google Mail service is bound to make it to the news.

Some Gmail users have experienced outages over the weekend. The Google support forums have been getting complaints of lost messages, folders and contacts.

Google said it was looking into the issue, and that the outage is not widespread. In fact, Google says less than 0.08% to 0.29% of Gmail users are affected (which still amounts to hundreds of thousands of users). During this time, affected users may not be able to sign in to their accounts while under repair.

While Gmail is a relatively stable cloud email solution, it is not immune to outages. These have only been minor hiccups, though, which lasted only a few minutes. Google has not made further comment on the issue, but you can check out the Gmail app status dashboard, in case you’re affected.
