1 Million Verizon iPhone 4 Units Sold in First Weekend?

CDMA iPhone 4 Sales High Despite Lack of Lines? Verizon to Sell 11 Million iPhones By the End of 2011?]

The Verizon iPhone 4 has been available in stores for a few weeks now but, at least until now, we didn’t see any official sales numbers yet. Analysts say that Big Red sold quite a lot of CDMA iPhones in the first weekend, despite any actual signs that would point to a terrific sales performance.

Scott Moritz from The Street said that Verizon sold 1 million iPhones in the first weekend. That’s an amazing number, and a figure some people might say they have expected all along; but where were all the lines? We haven’t seen any significant lines in front of Verizon or Apple stores that would indicate impressive sales. Sure, most people could have pre-ordered, or ordered their CDMA iPhone 4 online and had it sent home, but we’ll have to wait for Verizon to actually confirm iPhone sale numbers before we believe analysts’ estimations.

The 1 million figure is based on the fact that Dan Mead, Verizon Wireless’ Chief Executive, said that 60% of the company’s iPhone sales were online sales. Other analysts previously said that Verizon sold 600,000 iPhones online so, after some quick and simple calculations we can see why Scott Moritz concluded that Big Red must have sold 1 million units in the first weekend alone.

If proven to be true, that number is certainly impressive considering that, after all, we’re looking at an old device. Apple will launch the iPhone 5 later this summer and some Verizon customers could be waiting to pick up that particular handset right now.

Counting both iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 sales, Verizon is estimating that it will sell 11 million iPhones by the end of the year, which means that we’re basically looking at an average of 1 million CDMA iPhone sales per month. We’ll be back with more official numbers as soon as either Verizon or Apple make them official, but in the mean time we’re inviting current Verizon customers to tell us whether they purchased the iPhone 4 yet and why.
