Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Coming in March?
The Samsung Galaxy S is one of the best handsets of 2010 but it has a major flaw for an Android superphone, and that’s timely upgrades. We all know the whole Android 2.2 Froyo update saga that began last year. The Galaxy S family of phones was supposed to go from Eclair to Froyo since September, but we’re already in March 2011 and so many Galaxy S versions are still waiting for Samsung and its carrier partners to roll out the Android 2.2 update.

At the same time Samsung announced not one, but two Android 2.3 smartphones, the Nexus S, also a Galaxy S version, launched back in December 2010, and the Samsung Galaxy SII, the successor of the Galaxy S, made official at MWC 2010, and expected to hit stores in the following months. Besides that, the entry-level to mid-ranged smaller Galaxy S handsets we’ve seen in Barcelona, the Ace, the Fit, the Gio and the Mini will all sport Android Froyo, which is certainly annoying for current Galaxy S owners.
With all these thoughts in mind we’ll now tell you that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the Galaxy S is going to be launched at some point in March at least in Germany as this news transpired straight from the German Samsung offices. Does that mean the U.S. Galaxy S versions, and we have five of them in the wild, the Vibrant, Captivate, Fascinate, Epic 4G or Mesmerize, will also get Gingerbread? It’s too early to tell and we’d definitely need more than a tweet to confirm the Android 2.3 roll out.
What’s also troubling is that the Froyo update wasn’t a hassle-free upgrade as we’ve seen Samsung stop various updates for Galaxy S models in different countries. Therefore we can also wonder whether the Gingerbread upgrade will be a little more user-friendly than the Froyo or just as “smooth.” Whatever the case may be we’ll be back with more Galaxy S Gingerbread upgrade news in the following weeks, so stay tuned!

bullshit
That tweet is tweet from an Iphone so is unlikely not credible, thar guy cannot work at sammy and then own a iphone to tweet sammy leak news, that tweet need some verifications
@MJM
that tweet was from some mobile phone show in germany. still needs verification, but its not from a samsung rep. read around on other sites to get that bit of info.
It’s very possible though. After all, the Galaxy S is very close to the Nexus S in term of hardware. Plus, most of the world have had the 2.2 update already for months now. Only the US carriers lag behind as they need to add their bloatware to the phones they had custom built for themselves, adding another layer of delays.
It’s true. official 2.3 Android will come out shortly
An early version has already been leaked. Check out XDA Developers
