The Top Seven Game Chairs Not Made From A Car [After Covering the Mini Cooper Gaming Chair, We Put Together A List Of Seven Other Great Chairs To Play Games In]
After seeing that terrific gaming chair made out of the front half of a Mini Cooper, I got to thinking about all the other gaming chairs out there, including plenty that have called themselves “ultimate”. And so I set out to make a little list–the top seven gaming chairs out there, that aren’t the Mini Cooper game chair.
7. X-Dream GYROXUS
Admittedly, the X-Dream GYROXUS doesn’t look like much; we even covered it here once. In fact, it looks like you’re sitting on a solid slab of plastic with a control yoke sticking up in what may be a potentially very unpleasant place. But what this one actually does is allow you to put your controller (the chair you’re looking at is geared to the PS3, and they also offer a version for Xbox 360) into that hazardously placed yoke, and then twist, turn, and bank your way along with the games you play. There’s nothing like a motion component to make a gaming chair worth looking at, and that’s what we’ve got here.
6. UGC v3 Recliner
When you can attach a quote to a chair that says “It quite literally rocks your face off”, well, you’ve got to look twice at that particular chair. Considering it’s packing a pair of three inch headrest mounted speakers, though, it’s not hard to see where your face might be rocked off. But it’s not just hefty speakers here, there are also twelve different vibration motors built into the thing, as well as the opportunity to connect multiple chairs together for multiplayer gaming, and you can even use it with your home theater system for extra utility.
5. D-Box GP-200
The one thing you don’t get with very many racing games is true accuracy. No matter what, you’re still in your living room…until the D-Box GP-200 came along. They start with a padded bucket seat, just like many normal cars, and then set said bucket seat on three hydraulic legs. Then they add five speakers. This pretty much ensures that, when it comes to racing games, you’re going to get a spectacularly accurate experience for your racing games. The only problem is, this only works with a handful of racing games and simulators like Flight Simulator X. Terrific chair, but not too much works with it, and this is something of a kick in the pants given that these were selling for a whopping $16,425.
4. HotSeats 723 Flight Simulator TRX Game Chair
Sometimes your gaming chair has to go up a notch–and sometimes, that notch involves a processor. That’s just what you’ll get out of the HotSeats 723 Flight Simulator TRX Game Chair. It comes with a 23 inch LCD monitor, a 1.8 GHz Dual Core processor, speakers set to run Dolby 5.1 Surround, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and, yes, a cup holder. You’ve got sufficient processor power to run quite a bit of stuff, and if you upgrade those components (this orignally came out back in late 2007, so you know there’s plenty of room for upgrades), then you’ve got a whole lot of extra potential. A little old, maybe, but still plenty awesome.
3. Vision One
The Vision One is all about the ergonomics, folks. They start this magnificent monster off with a four-way adjustable, powered leather Porsche seat (yes, it’s a gaming chair with a powered seat, and that’s awesome no matter how you slice it). And from there, it comes with a series of adjustable optional components like surround speakers and a subwoofer. Options aplenty make this one a terrific gaming chair.
2. SimCraft Apex SC 830
There are two primary reasons this one is currently near the top of the list: the sheer expense of it and the fact that it was actually designed originally, reportedly, for military use. Built from a framework of steel tubes and given a leather seat, the device simulates the movement of most any vehicle, making it perfect for gaming. It also offers either three LCD displays or one 42 inch LCD display, a variety of audio system options, a Logitech control system, and more besides. It’s used by NASCAR racers for training purposes, and here’s the kicker–the price for one of these monsters? Forty grand. That’s right, a whopping five figures nets you one of these. In some places, that’ll buy you a house.
1. Emperor 1510
This was actually part of a contest that Taco Bells in Canada were running back in 2009–the Fill Up on Game Gear Tour–but the Emperor 1510 is a fully ergonomic chair boasting a huge wraparound display, controllers, and a fully featured recliner in one handy, 300 pound package. The interesting part is there are actually two versions of this chair: the basic version is $10,000 dollars, but if you’re willing to bump that up an extra 300 percent, well, you’ll get a bunch of extra features, including a kind of air conditioning. Specifically, it’s an “air circulation control” that works just like it would in a car. And when you’ve got a chair with air conditioning, even of a rudimentary sort, well…that makes it number one.
Whether you sit in a $40,000 chair with air conditioning to play your games, or in a $40 task chair you picked up cheap at Office Depot, or even on the old davenport your mom was going to throw out but you managed to save in a sudden burst of nostalgia, all that really matters in the end is that you have a good time at it. But still, when you want a little more than rolling casters and a pneumatic lift, or old memories, there’s always a little more out there. And that’s just a little of what we’ll tell you about right here.
