Minecraft Achievements, Console Ports Coming Soon, Teases Notch
Gaming business website Gamasutra got an interview with Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch” Persson. Minecraft is a perfect example of a successful indie game and seems to be quite the success for Persson as well as entertaining folks from all over. But, where does Minecraft go from here? Persson hints in the interview that he may add achievements to the game – as well as console ports of the popular sandbox game.

Regarding achievements, Persson says that he likes them, although he admits, “I know a lot of people don’t, but I like them.” Persson may actually get creative with his achievements, though, as he talks about building in a narrative and sort of crude questing system with his achievements – so you would follow all the achievement goals and see a story.
Persson also hinted at the possibility of console versions of Minecraft. He said (bold mine):
[Gamasutra:] Will Minecraft become a franchise?
[Persson:] I want to work on other games, but I think it would make sense to turn Minecraft into a franchise. I think it’s important that there should be a point to any future Minecraft games. So if we make an Xbox version, there should be a point to it being on Xbox.
