HTC Thunderbolt Listed In HTC's Online Store
For a few hours todays, the HTC Thunderbolt mysteriously appeared in HTC’s online webstore. Regular readers will note that the release date for the phone been somewhat of a mystery as it’s shifted back and forth and we really have no clue on when it’s coming out. While the Thunderbolt has now been yanked from the store, could it be a sign that the first 4G phone on Verizon is coming soon?

The phone was in the HTC store for the kinda steep price of $699. Granted, that was the contract-free price, but aside from the LTE modem, the HTC Thunderbolt is more or less the HTC EVO 4G we saw on Sprint last year, right down to the aging Qualcomm single-core processor. Can’t HTC/Verizon cut us a break on the price? Hopefully it’s just a placeholder price.
Strictly speaking, the phone wasn’t listed on the HTC website. A “hacker” (I use this term lightly) found that with some URL trickery, you could get the eCommerce system on HTC’s site to add the HTC Thunderbolt to your shopping cart. Unfortunately, the system wouldn’t let you checkout with the phone, so nobody will be getting an HTC Thunderbolt early.
Here’s a recap of the specs of the HTC Thunderbolt:
- Android 2.2 w/ HTC Sense
- 4.3-inch LCD screen
- 1GHZ processor (Qualcomm MSM8655)
- 768MB RAM
- 8GB memory
- 32GB microSD card preinstalled
- 8MP camera
Anyway, I saw the device at CES this year. While some have been giving the phone flak for not having a dual-core processor and the other features of phones we saw introduced at CES and MWC – I liked it. It was fast, quick and light. What more can you want from a phone?
