iPod Nano Gets Off Switch Upgrade

Apple Releases 1.1 iPod Nano Software Update; Sleep Button Can Now Control Track Playback & Power Off the Device

Latest Apple news this week involves the MacBook Pro update and the upcoming iPad 2 announcement. But let’s not forget the little guys. Apple has also put out updates to the iPod Nano, which now lets users actually turn it off.

Apple’s 1.1 update to the minuscule touch-screen nano brings about a change in how the sleep button works. While the sleep button originally just puts the device to sleep, the update will now let users shut the Nano down.

Also, because the Nano has lost the clickwheel design of old, users have no other way of controlling music playback, but via the touchscreen. The 1.1 update also provides added functionality to the sleep/wake button. Holding down the sleep button for a few seconds will turn off the Nano completely (but reminders and alarms will still go off). Meanwhile, the sleep button can also be configured to do the following commands when double-clicked.

  • Play next track
  • Pause/play track

The button can also be used to skip to the next FM radio station, or play/pause live radio.

If you have an iPod Nano, download the update now, via iTunes.
