HTC Merge Android Smartphone Coming To “North American Operators” This Spring [HTC Officially Announces The Merge, Will Feature 3.8" Display, 5MP Camera, Hardware QWERTY & Android 2.2]

Well look at what we have here, HTC has finally decided to get official with the Merge. This announcement follows what appeared to be a never ending stream of leaks and rumors and although the handset is now official, we are still in need of some of the more important points.

Given that, many have likely guessed that by more important points, we are referring to the pricing and the release date. According to the details, the HTC Merge will come available with “multiple North American carriers beginning in spring 2011.” In other words, it should be available relatively soon, but we are not sure who will have it.

Plus, the price is always a factor so we will have to hold back the excitement until we know how much it will be selling for. That aside though, the HTC Merge does appear to be a fairly solid offering, and we say that in despite of the fact that HTC is touting it as the “perfect device.”

“HTC prides itself on creating unique solutions that meet the needs of different customers, and with features like a full keyboard and global 3G roaming, the HTC Merge smartphone is the perfect example of this commitment,” said Jason Mackenzie, president, HTC Americas.

In terms of features, I am not sure that we even need a rehash here given we have seen them what seems like countless times in the past. But then again, the specs are official now and that being said, they include a 3.8 inch touchscreen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, flash and 720p video recording, GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In addition, the Merge will arrive with Android 2.2 and HTC’s Sense user interface.

Lastly, for those wondering about the carriers, one clue would arrive in the form of a little bragging done by HTC.

“The HTC Merge is also HTC’s first Android-based CDMA world phone.”

Can you say Verizon? Of course, given we have already seen live images on the interwebs with the Merge sporting Verizon branding that little bit is not all that shocking. With that, hey Verizon, we are all waiting.
