T-Mobile US Raises Price Of myTouch 4G On Contract
Usually as time goes on, we see the contract price of phones go down after a while. In what’s really an odd move, T-Mobile US has increased the price of the T-Mobile myTouch 4G by $50. The phone, in any color, is now $250 on a two-year contract while the $450 off-contract price has remained the same. Nobody really knows why T-Mobile is increasing the price on their four-month old Android phone.

Eagle-eyed tech watchers may remember a similar incident with T-Mobile and their pricing that happened last week. Via a press release, they announced that the Samsung Galaxy S 4G would cost $150 on contract, only to scramble and retract that, saying that it would actually cost $200 on contract. With the myTouch 4G, T-Mobile has been pretty sneaky and hasn’t really announced why they’re increasing the price of the device, although we’ll put a request in to their press relations department. What makes this even weirder is that $200 has sort of been established as the standard on-contract price for Android phones. Sometimes they’ll come out higher, or lower, but this is usually par for the course.
Here are the specs on the T-Mobile myTouch 4G (aka – the HTC Glacier):
- 3.8-inch “Super LCD” screen (remember that “Super LCD” is Sony’s technology that they say is indistinguishable from OLED screens).
- 1GHz processor
- 768MB RAM
- 8GB preloaded microSD card
- 4GB memory
- Android 2.2
- HSPA+ (T-Mobile’s 4G) complaint
I didn’t really expect a lot from this phone when it was announced, mainly because T-Mobile’s myTouch branding seems to appeal to kids and less technically sophisticated people. But the myTouch 4G is actually a very, very nice phone and very popular with folks from all walks of life. Again, not sure why they’re raising the price on this.
If you’re looking for a deal – Amazon Wireless is currently selling the myTouch 4G in all its colors for $30. Any prospective buyers should probably go over there.
