Rdio Brings Unlimited On-Demand Music Streaming To Roku Set Top Boxes

Rdio Channel Now Available For Roku Set Top Boxes, $9.99 Per Month for Unlimited On-Demand Music Streaming

While some recognize the Roku set top boxes as an easy way to bring Netflix into your living room, those little boxes offer so much more. For those unfamiliar, Roku launched a Roku Channel Store a while back and have since been adding new channels ever since. That said, the latest channel to come available means Roku users will be able to get unlimited on-demand music streaming.

The music is coming by a company we have mention here on TFTS in the past — Rdio. Yup, Rdio now has a channel in the Roku Channel Store and for current Rdio users — this means that you now have another place to listen to your tunes.

Of course, similar to watching Netflix on the Roku, the Rdio service comes with a monthly subscription — $9.99. But again, similar to Netflix, the Rdio service is available on a wide variety of devices. According to the Rdio website, they have clients available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and the BlackBerry. Plus there is still the ability to listen using a regular Mac or PC computer. Heck, they even have an app available in the Chrome Web Store.

Anyway, for your $9.99 per month you are given access to “over 8 million songs” and you can listen using one or multiple devices. Some of the features listed for the Rdio channel on Roku include;

  • Build your music collection – Whether you want to listen to the latest Top 40 album or indie artist, Rdio brings millions of songs in its library to your music collection.
  • Listen to playlists – Rdio users have created playlists with creative and descriptive names, making it easy to pick a playlist based on your mood.
  • Search everything fast – Search for more than just artists, albums and songs, our fast search also provides results for playlists and people.
  • See what’s popular – Check out what’s in “heavy rotation” and easily listen to the music that your friends and influencers are listening to most.
  • Check out new releases, top charts and recommended music – Be in the know about what’s new and buzzing in music. Rdio gives easy access to new releases, top charts, and recommended albums so you’re always up to date on the latest music and can easily re-discover old favorites. Check out top albums, songs and playlists, or browse album recommendations based upon the music you’ve previously played.
  • Know your personal history – view the albums, songs and playlists you have previously played.
  • Amazing web queue – Create a seamless listening experience across web, mobile and your TV by accessing your web queue across platforms. Queue up a set of albums, songs or playlists on the web and play that queue directly from Rdio on Roku.
