HTC Flyer Shows Up For Pre-Order On Another German Website
Last week, those of us who cover mobile news were shocked (as much as you can be in this business) when the HTC Flyer showed up for pre-order on Amazon.de just days after being announced at the Mobile World Congress in Spain. Now, the HTC Flyer has been added to another German website. This time, Cyberport.de is offering the WiFi-only version of the Android tablet for €499 ($688). That’s a considerably less than the Amazon.de listing, which had a price set at €669 ($922).

Nothing about a possible release date is attached to this listing, unfortunately for those waiting for one. It’s interesting that they’re promoting the tablet as “Android 3.0 ready (Android 2.4 installiert)”. HTC has confirmed that the tablet will be coming with only Android 2.3, while the tablet optimized Android 3.0 won’t be coming until a later update.
Other than that, we really haven’t learned a whole bunch from this new listing. Is there some reason that it’s popping in Germany first? No, probably not. Eastern Europe websites (and I know that strictly speaking, Germany isn’t in Eastern Europe) have always been known for breaking embargo dates and listing unannounced product early on their websites.
Opinions here at TFTS world headquarters are mixed on the price. HTC did say (like we’ve seen with every other tablet) that the WiFi-only version of the tablet would be cheaper than the 3G version. So, it’s possible that the €499 and €669 prices are accurate for the WiFi-only and 3G versions of the tablet. That’s a fair gap, though.
Would you buy the HTC Flyer for those prices? Tell us what you think.
