Samsung Galaxy Tab Set To Add A Model This Summer [Early Word Has Come Back Out of Samsung Looking To Add An 8.9 Inch Galaxy Tab By The End of Summer]

Interesting bit of news from the crew out at Samsung, who apparently had some words with the Yonhap News Service about a new model of Samsung Galaxy Tab featuring an 8.9 inch display.

It wasn’t so long ago we were seeing the 10.1 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab out at the Mobile World Congress show, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about sizing differences in various iterations of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, either. In fact, several different sizes of Samsung tablets exist, running the gamut from the Galaxy S / Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 measuring in at four inches even, and going all the way up to the Galaxy Tab at the recently shown 10.1 inches with plenty of stops on the way. In fact, 8.9 is not a current size of Galaxy Tab, which at last report came in seven and 10.1, so that makes the item a little extra credible.

Sadly, Samsung didn’t seem interested in talking about much else, leaving us to speculate about just what operating system and the like the currently theoretical 8.9 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab might be running. It’s probably pretty safe to say it will be working with Honeycomb (Android 3.0), though that is only a supposition at this stage of the game, not official word from Samsung.

What’s unusual about this development is the time line; word is that these might start hitting stores by the end of March, and on a wide scale, too. We know that much–though there’s some chance they’ll take up to the next few months to actually hit stores–but we don’t know the specs? Of course, it’s entirely possible that the specs will be identical to the current models with the key difference of display size and possibly resolution. No sense in announcing specs if you already have, right? Though it probably would have been better had they said “it’ll be the same as the 10.1 only smaller” or the like.

Still though, if 10.1 is just a bit too big, and seven just a bit too small, prepare to have your middle met with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab, likely coming soon.
