Nokia Adds Foursquare Support To Older Featurephones [Several Older Nokia Dumbphones With Symbian S40 Can Now Use Foursquare To Check In With Friends]
Foursquare – will it be the next huge social network? I don’t know, but if it is, Nokia’s all set. They’ve added the ability to check in on Foursquare to Symbian S40, which is supported on a batch of their more recent featurephones. Do you think this will be a big hit?

I mean, I’ve always thought of Foursquare as sort of being popular only with techno nerds. If you look at all the social networking services, more often than not, they’re adapted by the techno nerds first, then Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears join, followed by the mass of mainstream users. It seems that Foursquare is still pretty much used by techheads. And these Symbian S40 phones are pretty much for regular folks. I dunno, it’s nice that the option exists.
Right now, Nokia says that just a handful of phone will support the Foursquare app:
- Nokia 5310
- Nokia 6600 Fold
- Nokia 7230
- Nokia C3-00
- Nokia C3-01
- Nokia X3-02
As IntoMobile points out, this app is written in J2ME (Java Micro Edition – something that me and my chums used to mess around with at Engineering University), and almost every mobile operating system except for the iPhone will run it natively. Why doesn’t this app work on all of them? Oh well.
Nokia posted the below video. The interface doesn’t seem the greatest. Although again, we’re glad it exists. Also, why does Matt Vesterinen get to ride his bike around inside Nokia’s offices?
What say you? Do you own any of those phones and plan on using this application?
