Nintendo 3DS Launch Titles Get Clarification [Zelda, Kid Icarus, Star Fox and Mario Kart For Nintendo 3DS Get Pushed Back to Later 2011]
We got some clarification on the launch titles for the Nintendo 3DS, and undoubtedly, there are going to be plenty of disappointed folks out there as some serious names are getting shoved back to release dates of later on this year, including some that were hoped to show up at launch.
Of course, we brought you the word out of Nintendo’s live event back in January, but there’s been a bit of an update, and the update is really rather disappointing. The earlier update gave us a look at the “initial launch window”, which was set to include a bunch of titles to emerge in the first few months. Now, we’ve got a look at actual launch titles…and some of the biggest names don’t appear, like Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and both the Star Fox and Mario Kart titles, easily many of the biggest names originally projected.
The launch titles, though, are out, and still looking pretty good, even if the bigger names won’t hit until later on. Listed on the launch list are Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, Nintendogs + Cats, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, The Sims 3, Madden NFL Football, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, Ridge Racer 3D, Super Monkey Ball 3D, Bust-A-Move Universe, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Asphalt 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, Rayman 3D, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars.
Doubtlessly the fanbase is going to be hugely disappointed that the big names are MIA at launch, but still, this is probably a good approach for Big N to take. Get the somewhat lesser titles out the door first while everyone’s still freaking out over 3D gaming action on the go, and then start bringing out the flagship titles after everyone’s had a chance to get used to the new platform. Probably a better idea than throwing out all the cool stuff all at once then having nothing to follow up with.
Still, it’ll be a bit of a disappointment for Nintendo fans, one they should get over pretty quickly.
