Major Xbox 360 News Coming At GDC Next Week
Huge Xbox 360 news is coming next week at the Game Developer Conference. That’s according to Larry Hyrb, also known as Major Nelson, also known as Microsoft’s Director of Programming for the Xbox division. On his podcast, Hyrb announced the news, saying that it’s going to be some “cool news” that will make gamers “really happy”.

Via WinRumors.com, here’s the full Hyrb quote:
Next week I’m going to be down in San Francisco. We are having an invite-only press event that we’re going to have some cool news that I’m not quite fully briefed on, but we have a lot of news that we’re going to be announcing. Just telling you guys, you’re going to be really happy when you hear all the news, that’s all I can say.
Typical Major Nelson quote, eh? I’m surprised he didn’t follow up by taking about his new digital camera he got at Best Buy before mentioning he met J-Lo at some Xbox launch event.
Rumor mills seem to be pointing towards this being Kinect-related. It’s known that Microsoft is working on four new Kinect games in-house (or under the Microsoft banner, at least) and if you known a Kinect, you’ll know that no new games have come out for the system. It’s being assumed that Microsoft is holding up all the Kinect games for sort of a “second wave” of games.
Rumors and speculation also point towards Microsoft releasing some sort of SDK for Kinect on the PC. While Kinect was once Microsoft’s closed-source accessory, it’s been cracked open by open source modders and modded all over – as I’m sure you’re aware. Considering the sheer amount of money that Microsoft spent on Kinect, it’s inevitable that some sort of Kinect support is (officially) coming to Windows – it’s just a matter of when.
