Amazon Android Appstore Details Begin To Surface

Amazon Appstore Will Allow Users To Buy Android Apps Without Having A Device

This is not the first time we have heard of the Amazon Appstore, however as of now we are learning some rather interesting details. And one in particular that despite being given a reason as to why, it may still bring more questions than answers.

That said, lets kick things off with that feature — users will be able to get apps before they actually own an Android device. Of course, for those who may not be as familiar with Android, this is different from how things currently work. Typically, you signed into the Android Market from your phone (or tablet) after it arrived and then began to populate it with apps.

So basically, the Amazon Appstore will allow users to buy an app without actually having a device in hand. The official reason comes as this, it will allow users to have things ready for when their Android device arrives. Almost like planning ahead. Which in part, is sort of what you could do with an iPhone or iPad and the iOS App Store. That does sound nice.

Then again, the question, why? Why would Android users need this? Can users really not wait, or maybe Amazon justs want to be able to capitalize on app sales while the device purchase excitement is still riding high. Or maybe, just maybe this will allow for others to buy apps, say on a device that is not running Android but may be able to run Android apps — the BlackBerry PlayBook. Granted, we are still talking rumors here so we really should not speculate all that much. But at the same time, it does sound like Amazon is setting themselves up nicely.

Furthermore, another feature is one that could make things nicer for developers — Amazon will be including the apps in the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought” section which should help bring some extra eyes and maybe some extra sales. Otherwise, the split between developers and Amazon is said to be 20 percent of the list price or 70 percent of the sales price, whichever is greater. That said, while I will admit that I was not all that excited about having another place to buy Android apps, I do have to say that Amazon may have a few things going for them and at this point I look forward to seeing what they roll-out.
