Toyota Yaris HSD Concept to Come in Hybrid [Toyota Planning to Manufacture Hybrid Subcompacts; Yaris Hybrid Will Debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show]
The Prius is undoubdtedly one of Toyota’s more popular eco-friendly cars, but it’s not Toyota’s only fuel-saver. It’s also planning to upgrade its other smaller models, like the Yaris, with a hybrid system.

Toyota is planning to introduce hybrid synergy drive (HSD) to its 2012 Yaris hatchback. HSD powers the Prius and the latest additions to its hybrid line, the Prius v (and likewise the concept Prius c). The Yaris is part of Toyota’s “B” segment subcompact series, which includes various hatchback and sedan models.
While Toyota has not released any details at this time, the combination of lightweight construction and hybrid powertrain will surely mean even better fuel efficiency (probably better than the Prius). Subcompacts are actually Toyota’s most popular variants in Europe, and the addition of HSD will make these zippy small cars even greener.
The Yaris HSD concept will debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, along with the seven-seater Prius+.
