Michael Pachter Thinks Wii 2 Reveal 'Very Likely' In 2011
Though Nintendo keeps denying it, Michael Pachter keeps predicting it – the analyst from Wedbush Securities recently predicted once again that we’ll see a Wii 2 announcement this year, this time tacking on the prediction that it will be fully backward compatible in an attempt to get current Wii owners to upgrade.

Elaborating on his predictions, Pachter said,
Yes I think that when a Wii 2 comes out, that it will be fully backward compatible. So, when the Wii 2 comes out the only reason to buy a Wii is that you either can’t afford it or you don’t have a high-definition monitor and you don’t need it. I think that since we are very likely going to see a Wii 2 in 2011, and, just an edit here, I’ve said it for 2009 and 2010 so I’m just going to keep saying it until it comes out
His prediction that Wii 2 will be backward compatible doesn’t seem that far off – after all, the Wii is backward compatible with Gamecube games and it only makes sense for Nintendo to continue featuring this in their next console.
However, the fact that he made this same prediction in 2009 and 2010 throws all credibility out the window. I, for one, don’t think we’ll be seeing a Wii 2 in 2011 for one reason: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Announcing the Wii 2 in the same year (and likely around the time of release) will take attention off of the new Zelda game, something that Nintendo is no doubt counting on to move a few Wiis.
