Sony Says Game Exclusives Are Holding The Industry Back
Sony have been known to occasionally rise above such petty human concerns as common sense as well as employing some of the most quotable people in the industry, but if that’s a quality Sony truly want to cultivate in their employees, they better keep an eye on MLB 11: The Show brand manager Scott McCarthy as he’s trying for the big leagues. He’s no Kaz Hirai, or even Ken Kutaragi, but it’s not for lack of initiative.

“We work very closely with our third parties publishers, not necessarily to lock down games exclusively, but to lock up exclusive parts of games,” he said. “A good example is Batman: Arkham Asylum, where you could only play as the Joker on PlayStation 3. When you make a title exclusive, you limit its promotional power; we don’t want to do that. We want games to be as big as possible – it’s great for the industry.” He also went on to say that the only thing that can save the industry is if every game on the 360 could just get one level with a three minute time limit and a screen directing players to the PS3 version at the end. Or at least that’s what we get the feeling he was going if the reporter had stuck around a bit.
