Nintendo Says Physical Media Not Going Anywhere, Echoes Sony

Nintendo Commited To Physical Media, Doubt That It Will Be Obsolete Any Time Soon

Looks like Sony and Nintendo have found some genuine common ground in their love for physical media. For both of them it’s not going anywhere and is completely safe despite doom-filled pronouncements from every other exec. “We have been very clearly communicating for a long time that the packaged software or retail market is the one that’s going to drive the mass market,” Nintendo Europe exec Laurent Fischer says.

“We have never seen any link between growth in the mobile gaming market and decrease in the normal software market. It’s two different markets, two different topics. We couldn’t find any evidence of those two markets being linked,” he went on. Yes, but one of them is completely digital and one of them… isn’t. Maybe that difference alone would require some quiet reflection. Although 3DS game carts are rumored to run to about 8 GB and downloading that would take a while on the best connection, we’re going to go out on a limb and guess people would still like the choice.
