Samsung Epic 4G Gets Android 2.2 February 21st [Been Longing For The Froyo Experience On Samsung's Epic? The New Update Hits Monday]

We’ve been following this one for some time now, so it stood to reason that it had to finally drop sometime, but for those of you waiting for Android 2.2 to actually hit your Samsung Epic 4G, you will finally get your way. This Monday is the new date of choice for this to hit, and considering that we’re only hearing about it now, it seems to be the most likely we’ve seen yet.

I know, you’ve been promised this before, and it’s fallen through. Several times. But the current word says it’s this Monday or bust, and this is actual word from Sprint proper, who has put up a support page detailing how the move to Android 2.2 will be “a phased over-the-air rollout”, as part of the EB13 upgrade, which in turn gets started Monday. There will be a bit of a lag here–Sprint proper is claiming that all their relevant customers should have it by the 25th–but that’s the claim, and it’s straight out of Sprint, reportedly.

Further good news: it’s not just the jump to Froyo that will be appearing here, with all its attendant goodies, but also a set of as yet unclarified “GPS enhancements”, which is never a bad thing. Last thing you want is something like that State Farm “Mayhem” commercial where your GPS “recalculates” you into oncoming traffic.

It was probably a good movie on Sprint’s part–with all the new phones looking to come out on a variety of different platforms, the last thing they wanted to do was hobble updates, lest anyone off-contract start thinking seriously about moving. And they’re going to have a whole lot to move to in short order, so the folks out at Sprint are likely thinking seriously about customer service.

So if you’ve got a Samsung Epic 4G, prepare to be happy in just a few short days as you get your long-awaited upgrade.
