Nokia Will Giving Launchpad Members Two Free Smartphones [Nokia Announces Developer Goodwill Plan, Will Send Each Launchpad Member A Free Nokia E7 & WP7 Smartphone]

While the big Microsoft and Nokia news has settled down a little bit, there is still the wonder of just how well this will work out in the long run. And perhaps more important, whether this will save Nokia from where they currently are and whether this will help spur the adoption of Windows Phone 7.

That said, in regards to Windows Phone 7, one of the more commonly pointed out issues comes down to the whole chicken and egg scenario with apps. You need developers to create apps, but at the same time the developers will not create apps because the users are not there. And of course, the users are not there because the apps are not there.

Well, as it turns out Nokia may have a decent plan to help ease developers into the transition. According to the details, which are coming by way of a leaked memo, current Launchpad members will be getting two free smartphones. The devices include the Nokia E7 which is said to be coming in the “near-term” as well as a yet to be named Nokia branded WP7 device which will arrive “as soon as it becomes available.”

Sounds like a good plan to get the developers excited, or at the very least a little more interested. And for those wondering about the Launchpad program, this is Nokia’s mobile app development program. The Launchpad program is open for all to apply, however your application has to be approved before you become a member. In other words, its probably not worth trying to sign up for the sole reason of getting two free phones. Furthermore, the Launchpad program is usually priced at €300 per year.

With that, it seems like Nokia is taking a step in the right direction as far as furthering relationships with developers and hoping ease their transition into WP7 development.
