MWC 2011 Live: HTC Desire S Hands-on Preview
The HTC Desire S has been launched in Barcelona today, the capital city of the mobile world, and, while certainly a more than dependable device, the Desire S is a simple upgrade of its predecessor. The Desire was a great Android handset itself, the HTC version of the first Google device, the Google Nexus One.

The Desire S is a solid device made of one piece of plastic, not that should matter when picking one up from the store. The Desire S will certainly serve you right but you’ll have to ask yourself whether you should slightly upgrade your 2010 Android phone (maybe exactly the original Desire) or wait for the super smartphone beasts to hit stores. The phone handles itself pretty good but there was lag present in more than one occasions, although that’s somewhat understandable considering we’re still looking at unannounced devices that are tested without end at HTC’s booth.
The Desire S has up-to-date Gingerbread support, more memory, more RAM and a front-facing camera. The phone is definitely above the HTC Wildfire S, the ChaCha and the Salsa, and it tops Samsung’s Galaxy line of entry-level to mid-ranged devices which we looked at the other day.
But considering that out there we have dual-core processors, amazing new designs, bigger displays and other unique features, this yesterday’s phone with a new coat and a bunch of improved features will not stand the test of time. Therefore we expect it to be available for fairly cheap, which is how Android is slowly but surely winning the mobile game: plenty of affordable smartphones to go around.
