MWC 2011 Live: Motorola Atrix Hands-on Preview Including All Docks
We took the Motorola Atrix 4G for a hands-on earlier this year at CES 2011 and now that Moto stopped at the most important mobile fair in Europe, the Mobile World Congress, we decided to give the Atrix 4G another go.

The handset, still touted as the most powerful smartphone out there, is going to be a more than impressive Android superphone. The phone looks and feels great and handles itself pretty good. Along with the Motorola Xoom, the world’s first Honeycomb tablet, the Atrix 4G seems to be the main attraction of Motorola’s booth here at MWC and I can’t blame anyone for wanting to check it out.

It’s not just the smarpthone features that attract the crowds but, most importantly, that Webtop application which will take your smartphone experience to the next level, a bigger screen. We checked out all the docs out there, the Laptop Dock, the HD Multimedia Dock and even the Car Dock. While we were given no prices for them yet, we do know that some of these devices, especially the Laptop Dock, are going to be pretty expensive.

I was mostly interested in the Laptop Dock, and it took me a couple of minutes to find a docked Atrix 4G in it, but unfortunately an Internet connection wasn’t available, which is something we’ve seen, or better said, lacked, at other booths throughout the fair. And why else would you want to use a Laptop dock if not to better surf the web on the go?

I’ll have to say the Dock feels pretty cheap, although it’s not like I had any high expectations regarding this particular accessory. The point of the dock is to give you fast access to a bigger screen, which could be quite an interesting feature say, while covering such an event like the MWC.

As for the other docks, well, there’s not much to say. They’re there, they’re useful, and they’re going to cost you extra cash if you want them. The Atrix 4G is probably one of the best handsets of the beginning of the year, and it will certainly be a more than interesting adversary to handsets like the HTC Thunderbolt or the Galaxy S 2, not to mention the iPhone 5. But let’s hope it will also be upgraded to Gingerbread as fast as possible.

We have no pricing details for the European launch of the Atrix 4G yet, but we’re still hoping the device will make it to international markets too. Why else have it featured at a MWC show?
