MWC 2011 Live: HTC Flyer Android Gingerbread Tablet Hands-on Or At Least Pictures
In case you already saw my earlier ChaCha and Salsa hands-on post then you already know I’m pretty annoyed HTC didn’t let its potential customer, partners, and press touch these two Facebook devices earlier on today. More importantly, it locked the HTC Flyer, their first Android device under a glass too.

Don’t get me wrong HTC as I was really looking forward for your first Android tablet especially considering what’s out there from LG, Motorola or Samsung. Unfortunately I’ll go ahead and say that it looks like HTC has lost this first round of the Android tablet wars.
It took HTC over a year to come out with a tablet, and it’s a Gingerbread based one. Mind you, it’s not Honeycomb and it doesn’t appear to be ready for man-handling yet, let alone launch. The Xoom, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Optimus Pad all look like they’re ready to take on the iPad 2 now, even though some of them are still in development,
But the HTC Flyer doesn’t seem to be ready to come out of hiding. We’ll remind everyone that Motorola didn’t let us actually touch the device at CES and HP was pretty protective with their TouchPad too, but they didn’t hold their tablets under a locked glass with no access for visitors.

We already covered the HTC Flyer earlier today, so here are the main specs and features of this upcoming Android tablet:
- Android Gingerbread upgradeable to Honeycomb at some point in the future
- HTC Sense UI on top
- 1.4GHz processor
- 7-inch touchscreen display
- 1GB of RAM
- 32 built-in storage space
- 5-megapixel camera
- 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
- weight 420g
- stylus support
Now the Galaxy Tab, a Gingerbread Android phone is already selling in stores. The BlackBerry PlayBook is also getting ready to be launched. So will we see the Flyer become a best seller in the following months? We’ll definitely try to get a better hands-on preview for you guys by the end of the Spanish mobile show.
