Bizarre Creations Set To Close February 18

Project Gotham Racing, Geometry Wars Developer Bizarre Creations To Close Its Doors Permanently On February 18

It seems that developer Bizarre Creations won’t be getting a second chance at life, after all. After hopes were high that the studio would find a buyer when Activision announced the intent to close the developer, Develop is now reporting that they will close their doors for good on Friday, February 18th.

Reports are saying that nearly 200 people will be losing their jobs when the doors close, and what prevented a buyout from another company is the fact that hiring individual developers after a studio closes is much cheaper than buying the entire studio outright.

Bizarre Creations is responsible for giving us some great games over the last twenty years or so, including four Project Gotham Racing titles, Fur Fighters, the Geometry Wars series, and more recently Blur, a racing game that passed under the radar for most, despite receiving generally positive reviews.

It’s certainly sad whenever a great game developer leaves the industry, but hopefully we’ll see a new studio rise from the ashes of Bizarre Creations, or at the very least see some of the employees find a new home at a different game company.
