MWC 2011: LG Optimus 3D & LG Optimus Pad Get Officially Official

LG Announces Its 2011 Android Lineup at MWC: LG Optimus 3D, Optimus 2X, Optimus Black Smartphones & LG Optimus Pad Tablet

The Mobile World Congress will start officially only tomorrow but companies like LG, Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericssson will make public announcements today, the Sunday before the start of the event.

LG is the first to make its move as the South Korean manufacturer has decided to announce its Android lineup for 2011, or at least, its “premium” line-up. Of course you already know the LG Optimus 2X, one of the first dual-core Android handsets in the world, and the Optimus Black, ready to offer you even more display brightness than its competitors. They were both announced at CES 2011 and we have already covered them extensively.

The Optimus Pad, also known in some parts of the world as the LG G-Slate, has also been announced today, but the device was also mentioned during CES 2011.

The big news today is the announcement of the first 3D smartphone in the world, also an Android device, the LG Optimus 3D. We’ve known all along this handset is coming to MWC, and our pre-MWC predictions pretty much came through at least related to LG’s announcements.

Here’s what the LG Optimus 3D will have to offer in terms of specs and features:

  • 4.3-inch WVGA glass-free 3D display
  • 1GHz OMAP4 dual-core processor
  • four times more video decoders than competing designs
  • 3D playback, 3D picture-taking and video-recording capabilities
  • dual-lens camera
  • HDMI and DLNA support

And since 3D capabilities in smartphones and tablets seem to be the new trend in the mobile business, here’s what the LG Optimus Pad, a 3D iPad competitor made by LG, will offer you:

  • 8.9-inch display
  • 15:9 aspect ratio
  • full HD 1080p support
  • 1,280 x 768 WXGA resolution
  • 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • 3D camera with 3D picture-taking and video recording capabilities
  • Android Honeycomb under the hood.

We’ll notice that the LG Revolution, the first LTE 4G handset made by LG and announced at CES 2011, was not included in the press release. As for pricing details and release dates, well, it’s too early for such information but MWC is just about to start. Keep close and we’ll share all these details with you in the following days from Barcelona, Spain.
