Half Of All DC Universe Online Subscirbers Are Playing On PS3

DC Universe Online Director Chris Cao Says Roughly Half Of The Game's Subscribers Are Playing On PS3

Releasing a new MMO in an over saturated market is a risky endeavor in itself these days, never mind deciding to release it on a home console. When Sony Online Entertainment announced plans to release DC Universe Online on PS3, many wondered if they were crazy, and even more expected it to crash and burn, it seemed.

The move to release on PS3 appears to have paid off though, as game director Chris Cao says that 45 percent of subscribers are playing on the PS3. He also says that PS3 players tend to play shorter sessions of DC Universe Online more often, while PC players tend to play less often but play for longer when they log on.

While this is certainly good news for those who would like to see more MMOs on consoles, it may just be an isolated case, especially considering that the PS3 version of DC Universe Online didn’t fare as well as the PC version in reviews. Time will tell, though, since Sony Online Entertainment is planning to release at least a few more MMOs on PS3 in the next year or two.
