DC Universe Subscriber Base Split Down The Middle Between PC & PS3

DC Universe Seeing PS3&PC Gamers In Equal Numbers, Blue Beetle Addition Teased

A recent interview with one of the designers behind Sony’s improbably successful MMO DC Universe reveals not only a fascinating glimpse behind the platform dynamics in the game, but some insight into how metrics affect what the developers decide to throw into an update. “We want to add more stuff to the game on a monthly basis,” DC Universe game designer Chris Cao said. “We want to add stuff that people want and we have a robust series of metrics to measure that.”

The number of PC gamers currently living out their superhero fantasies is lightly higher than that of PS3 masked crusaders, but only by a teensy 5%. PS3 players, however, clock in more hours overall. “PS3 gamers tend to play more,” Cao says. “But their session lengths are shorter. The average PS3 session is one to one and a half hours, maybe two hours. The typical PC session is usually two to three hours.” Also, that whole listening to fans thing? Apparently more than marketingspeak, since they’re seriously considering bringing Blue Beetle back to life just for the game. “I don’t want to spoil anything, but we are making sure to listen to what people want,” he also explained. Not a bad start, this.
