Kevin Butler Accidentally Retweets Sony Jailbreak Code
You, like me, may have thought that the Kevin Butler Twitter account was just some fan who likes the Sony commercials starring Jerry Lambert as the eccentric awesome fictional Sony vice president. Turns out, the account is being run by Sony, and that company surely got embarrsed a bit this week when the fictional “Vice President of Epic Gaming for All” retweeted the USB jailbreak dongle ID generator key – aka something used to help crack the PlayStation 3′s encryption.

Self-proclaimed “Linux Geek” Travis La Marr (Twitter: @exiva) directed a Tweet at the Kevin Butler account with the said jailbreaking generator key attached, along with the invitation to “Come at me.” La Marr seems to have an obsession with legal action from Sony, as he has gone on and on about getting sued, getting a subpoena. Obviously, not concerned enough to stop him from doing it. Seems to me that he wants to be a martyr or something.
Anyway, the chap running the Kevin Butler evidentally didn’t know what the series of characters was and thought it was a reference to the board game Battleship. Butler replied:
Lemme guess… you sank my Battleship?
There is some speculation about if the guy running the Butler account knew what it was – or was ignorant. Either way, he retweeted the code, which is the cause for all the “LOL SONY HELPPED CRACK THEIR OWN SYSTEM!!!!!!111″ headlines that have been going around the blogosphere this week.
As mentioned, the Butler account deleted the Tweet. No legal action against La Marr yet, and (in my opinion) I don’t think we’ll see any. But, the chap running the Kevin Butler account did have his pride wounded this week.
