New iPad 2 Report Talks Specs & Features But No Release Date

iPad 2: 1,024 x 768 Resolution, FaceTime Support (Dual Cameras), More Memory, Thinner, Lighter & Currently in Production; Will Launch When It Feels Like It

The longer the iPad 2 stays hidden the more rumors and leaks are going to keep flooding the web about it and, while it was pretty quiet recently, today we have a new report on Apple’s next-gen tablet coming all the way from the WSJ.

Today the Journal says the Apple’s iPad 2 is in production – well, big surprise there, folks! It’s not like we’d expect anything else from Apple than getting ready for the next tablet’s release date with plenty of stock to go around, initially in the USA and then the rest of the world.

But what the Journal will not mention yet, and no matter how trusted their sources are, are the official release dates, for the U.S. and other international markets. The WSJ briefly covers some important specs and features of the device like display resolution, FaceTime support or design changes and pretty much confirms everything we heard of in previous leaks before.

The new device will be thinner, lighter and will come with a faster processor, more memory and a more powerful graphics processor, said the people familiar with the matter. It will have a front-facing camera for the first time for features like video-conferencing, but the resolution of the new iPad’s display will be similar to the first iPad, they said.

The new iPad will be available through Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc., but not Sprint Nextel Corp. or T-Mobile USA in the U.S., according to some of the people familiar with the matter.

In other words we expect the iPad 2 to offer the same 1,024 x 768 resolution, pack a more powerful processor, a graphics processor and more (RAM?) memory and come with two cameras that will fit perfectly with Apple’s FaceTime video chat app. The new iPad will be slimmer and thinner and will come with 3G support for both AT&T and Verizon. We can’t help but say that we told you all these things before. The real question is when is Apple going to announce the device?

And by new iPad you mean the iPad 2 or the iPad 3? The iPad 2 is out now in the USA, has been for a few days. The iPad 3 will be out in 2012 most likely.
