New iPhone 5 Release Date Now Said to be Around June 5
The Verizon iPhone 4 is already selling like hot cakes but some people aren’t really interested in “old” technology. Waiting for the CDMA iPhone was surely annoying but that doesn’t mean all Verizon subscribers interested in Apple’s handset will go for a new two-year contract with Big Red with less than four months to go until the iPhone 5 comes out. The same goes for anyone else currently being interested in a GSM iPhone 4.

The next-gen smartphone is going to be unveiled at WWDC 2011, which is apparently going to take place from June 5 to June 9 according to the leaked schedule above. Naturally we don’t have any confirmation from Apple and we’ll have to wait a while for Cupertino to send out invites. In fact we’re still waiting for the company to announce the next-gen iPad media event date, which, last time we checked, was scheduled for late February or early March.
The spreadsheet above only mentions a Corporate Meeting scheduled for June 5-9, and we’ll also note there’s a second Corporate Event on June 22-23. But Apple will surely want to announce the iPhone 5 as fast as possible and have it in stores equally fast.
The most likely scenario, given these launch dates are true, is that Apple will announce the iPhone 5 on June 5, and have it in stores as soon as possible. Will Apple release the phone on the very same day? That’s too early to tell, although usually Apple waits a short while before sending its brand new iPhones to stores.
On the other hand 2011 is already shaping up to be a fierce year when it comes to mobile products. Smartphones and tablets dominated CES 2011 and MWC 2011 is closing in fast, which means we’re going to see even more iPhone competitors get official. Android phones look better and better, but there are other fishes in the mobile sea too, so launching a new iPhone 5 as fast as possible would certainly help Apple push these contenders back.
We’ll be back with more iPhone 5 news as we’re sure to get quite a lot of rumors and leaks in the following months so stick around, subscribe to our feed and follow us on Twitter for more details on Apple’s upcoming handset.
