GreenPois0n (GreenPoison) RC5.4 Now Available, Will Jailbreak iOS 4.2.6 Devices

Those who have already gotten their Verizon iPhone or those still waiting the general availability day, there is a bit of good news in terms of jailbreaking. It can be done. Yup, the Chronic Dev Team has released an update to GreenPois0n that is compatible with the Verizon iPhone, or more specifically — the version of iOS that the Verizon iPhone is running.

That said, the Verizon iPhone made its way into the hands of those who pre-ordered as of yesterday and they were greeted with an update to iOS upon their first sync. The iOS update brought the iPhone up to version 4.2.6 which dealt with Mobile Hotspot. Anyway, the latest version of Greenpois0n and the one that you will need if you plan to jailbreak is RC5.4. And nicely, there is a version of Greenpois0n RC5.4 available for Mac OS X and Windows so no one should feel left out in that respect.

As far as jailbreaking goes, that means access to Cydia and the many other goodies and perks that come along with. But possibly more important is whether or not you want to jailbreak, sure you can, but should you. That is a question that you will have to answer for yourself, but speaking personally I can say that I am going to sit this one out.

I had a Verizon iPhone delivered yesterday, but having left the iPhone shortly before the iPhone 4 was released, its been a while since I last used iOS on the iPhone. Needless to say, the main reason I jailbroke in the past was to be able to run multiple apps at the same time, mainly Slacker and Runkeeper while running, but that can be done with iOS at this point.

But possibly more important of a reason of why I am holding back — I am not in the mood to get back into the whole wait to update and always having to think twice because I don’t want to lose my jailbreak game.
