Verizon Wireless Acknowledges Plan To Throttle, Will Not Say When It Will Begin
Last week we saw the PDF memo that was spotted on the Verizon Wireless website detailing the data throttling — and well, as of last week it looked like the throttling was set to begin immediately. Anyway, flash forward just a few days and it looks like there are some updates in terms of that memo.

First the good, according to Verizon — it has not begun as of yet. But of course, the flip side of that is the not so good — Verizon has officially acknowledged that it will be happening which means those memos were accurate and official. And while there is still some hope to be had that it will take Verizon a long time to roll this out, they were pretty vague in terms of additional details.
It seems Verizon released a statement to Broadband DSL Reports and judging from the wording, it sounds like this is more forward looking than anything that is going to happen right at this moment.
“The notice yesterday simply reserves the right for new customers or renewing their contracts,” Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson tells Broadband Reports. “We’re reserving the right to actively manage the network in specific ways should that need exist – and only for customers who are under contract that includes that provision,” he says.
Furthermore, as to what will trigger a person to be throttled, at present they cannot say.
“Because this is down the road – if at all – it’s too early to tell what those triggers might be, or what throughput limitations would look like.”
Bottom line, this is disappointing to see, but to be honest it is not all that surprising to see. With that, we will be on the lookout for more information as it comes available. And who knows, maybe they will never implement this. Still, I would rather be throttled when I hit a magic number as opposed to go with what AT&T has — a hard cap at 2GB.
