Sprint Rumored To Announced Kyocera Echo Smartphone At "Impossible Is Possible" Event

Sprint Tipped To Announce Kyocera Echo Tonight, Not Sounding All That Much Like "Another Industry First"]

A short while back Sprint passed out the invitations for the event that is going to be happening later this evening. And while they were pretty tight with the details, they did state that the event would feature magician David Blaine and that we would be treated with “yet another industry first.”

To be honest, all the hype made it sound pretty interesting. Plus, those who were attending the event had a nice show and some cocktails to look forward to. The original invitation stated that;

“Join Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and master illusionist David Blaine for an invitation-only event showcasing Sprint’s continued innovation in the wireless industry and yet another industry first. ”

Of course, things can change and this time the thing that may be changing is the level of our excitement. As of this morning a Bloomberg Businessweek article is reporting that the announcement may not be all that magical. Well, truth be told, they did not state that specifically. Instead, according to the details given;

“Sprint Nextel Corp., the third- largest U.S. wireless carrier, will announce it is adding a Kyocera Corp. smartphone to its lineup at an event in New York today, said a person familiar with the companies’ plans.”

And further details suggest that the Kyocera smartphone will be the Kyocera Echo. Of course, while we do not have any additional details in terms of the Echo at this point, some may remember the name from a trademark filing that was spotted back in January.

With that, while the Echo may indeed get announced this evening, we still have to wonder how the “industry first” is going to come into play. Otherwise, in terms of Kyocera and Sprint, there are a few other handsets currently available — they are the Innuendo, the Taho, the Vero and the Zio — all of which are Sanyo branded. The Innuendo is free on-contract, the Taho is priced at $99.99, the Vero is also free and the Zio is $49.99.
