HTC Thunderbolt Goes on Pre-order Today; $50 from Best Buy But No Release Date
Just as expected the HTC Thunderbolt has gone up for pre-order today and Best Buy will let you secure your first 4G LTE handset for a measly $50. That’s a great price to pay for one of the hottest Android handsets coming to stores this quarter. But there’s definitely some bad news that we have to share with you today: there’s no public release date for the phone yet.

Whenever you pre-order a product you’re usually given a release date but this time around we have no idea when Verizon and Best Buy are going to sell this baby in stores. As you might already know, the word on the street is that Verizon postponed the handset, scheduled initially to be launched on February 14, to February 28.
The fact that Best Buy is not ready to share launch dates with its customers that are ready to pre-order the HTC Thunderbolt only shows that the report we saw yesterday was pretty accurate. Verizon wants to make the most of the iPhone 4, and what better way to do that than postpone one of the most sought after Android handset of the beginning of the year.
Launching a 2011 handset like the Thunderbolt right after the 2010 iPhone 4 could be pretty puzzling for Verizon’s subscribers and they might have a hard time choosing between the two. But pushing the CDMA iPhone 4 at full marketing speed and then focusing on the HTC Thunderbolt could be a great idea as Verizon will make the most of both handsets right after launch.
The HTC Thunderbolt is now available on Best Buy’s website and it’s not just the final release date that’s missing there. We also lack a final price tag so in the mean time we’ll use the latest pricing details we’ve seen in previous rumors: $249.99 with a new two-year contract. Have you pre-ordered your HTC Thunderbolt yet?
