Palm Pre 2 Rumored For February 17th Release With Verizon Wireless

Verizon To Finally Get Another webOS Smartphone, Latest Palm Pre 2 Release Date Is Rumored As February 17th

Is Verizon Wireless finally going to launch the Palm Pre 2? After having seen the announcement so far back, one might have assumed that it had been quietly killed off, however according to a recently leaked “device information” doc from Verizon — the launch may be coming sooner rather than later.

And just to offer a brief recap in this saga, the Pre 2 was announced by HP back on October 19th at which time it was described as coming to the US and Canada in the “coming months.” Well, I am not sure about your time estimates, but mid-October until mid-February does not seem like “coming months.” That aside, it did manage to come available up in Canada with Rogers back in December. Furthermore, it was also available as an unlocked GSM handset here in the US direct from HP. Of course, an unlocked GSM version will not help those wanting to use it on Verizon.

That aside though, there has also been plenty of rumors and speculation, including a stray listing that appeared with Walmart Wireless back in early-January. But more important is the present, after all those rumors were clearly not accurate. So moving forward and we can look at the latest rumored release date — February 17th, as in just under two weeks from today. And yes, the obvious is there in that this is coming as a result of a leaked document and not an official announcement.

And while that means the 17th may not be the real deal, the one silver lining here is that the document is coming by way of Verizon and somehow that makes it feel a little more legit.

Otherwise, the device information document with the date also includes the specs, but fails to mention the pricing. In terms of specs, those we already knew however since its been so long a brief recap seems to be in order. The Pre 2 will have a 1GHz TI OMAP processor, 16GB internal storage, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, 5 megapixel camera and an underwhelming 3.1 inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution.
