Mad Catz Soon To Be Only Source Of Wireless Headphones On Xbox 360
A bit of a shocker here, as Microsoft signs an exclusive deal with third-party peripheral maker Mad Catz to be the exclusive source of wireless gaming headsets for Microsoft’s popular game console.
I know–that one sure caught me off guard too. The company known for lower-end peripherals is now the exclusive supplier of wireless gaming headphones? It’s bizarre to say the least; Mad Catz isn’t exactly a name that springs immediately to mind when it comes to suppliers of quality peripherals. Sure, some of their stuff has been good, but some nowhere near so much.
However, this particular setup looks like it’d be worth bearing the Microsoft name. The specs on these headphones are not half bad–they’ll be packing Dolby 5.1 channel surround sound, which for wireless headphones is a pretty big deal to say the least. Interestingly, they’ll also be producing wired headsets in the Tritton series, but they won’t be the only ones making wired headsets.
You’ll start seeing the new headsets around the end of this year–just in time for Christmas, I’m told–and who knows? Maybe this move will put a little punch in Mad Catz’s product line, and we’ll see some spectacular stuff. After all, it looks like they’re going to spend most of 2011 on development and production ahead of product launches toward around about November, so the end results may be worth waiting for.
I can’t say as I’m holding out a lot of hope for such a result to take place, but then again, I’ve certainly seen stranger things. They happen every day, you know. And based on what we know so far, these may well turn out a whole lot better than expected–that Dolby 5.1 doesn’t exactly look like a bad sign. It’ll remain to be seen just how it all boils down, but the end result will, hopefully, prove well worth the wait.
