Netflix For Boxee Box Officially Delayed Again

Netflix App Said To Be Running, But Still Not Approved For Release On Boxee Box Due To Netflix Security Requirements

Sometimes it appears as if Netflix is on every device available at this point, and while that may be an exaggeration, at the same time it should not take much effort to find a model of the device you are buying that has Netflix built-in. But, it seems as if the Boxee Box is quickly becoming an exception to that previous statement as the service roll-out has been delayed yet again.

That said, the latest in this saga came when the Boxee team announced that Vudu was available for the Boxee Box last month. And as a part of that announcement, it was noted that Netflix was still on track for release “later this month.” Of course, that meant January and as everyone likely realizes — January is over. And well, Netflix is not yet available for Boxee Box users.

That is the bad news, but the post over on the Boxee Blog almost makes it seem like a tease. The post paints them as being in “a bit of an awkward spot at the moment.” As to just what that means, well, it seems as if the Netflix app is ready and working. In fact, the post goes on to mention that they had just “watched the intro to Full Metal Jacket” earlier in the day.

Anyway, as for why regular users cannot have Netflix, according to the details given, there is an issue with security and at this time they (Boxee) are not able to satisfy the security requirements set forth by Netflix. Kind of sounds like what we are hearing in terms of Android, but that is a story for another day.

With that, the post concludes stating that they “anticipate availability soon.” Granted, they have been saying that for a few months now. Just off the top of my head, it has been delayed a few times — it was at one time promised before the end of the year (2010) and then later promised by the end of January. And while the soon does not sound all that great, at least it was better as compared to simply changing to month and saying ‘by the end of February.
