Leaked Sony Cybershots Go Official With Specs And Pricing

The HX100V and HX9V, Leaked Only Days Ago, Get Official Releases

Man, what a difference a slightly long weekend makes, huh? The HX100V and HX9V just got their spec lists and prices announced after only a couple days as leaked items.

If you want a refresher on the leak, we actually covered it at the link, but the full specs have arrived and they’re looking pretty nice.

First, there’s the HX9V, which is a step up from the HX5V offered last year, and packs in a 16x optical zoom, as well as full HD (1920 x 1080) video recording (and at 60 frames per second, too!), as well as Sony’s new Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode (it captures panoramic shots at 42.9 megapixel, or roughly, three shots side by side), a 16.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, the ability to shoot images in 3D, and even a 3D Sweep Panorama mode which actually lets you make, as the name implies, a 3D panorama shot. You’ll even get a GPS system and a compass, so not only can you tell where you took your photos, the chances of you getting lost while you take them just fell through the floor.

The HX100V, meanwhile, offers most everything that the HX9V does–as we’d projected earlier–but also brings in a 30x optical zoom, and in a new development, a manual control ring that will adjust focus or zoom, as well as, reportedly, an articulating tilt and swivel screen.

Frankly, the more I hear about these, the better they look. There’s a lot of great features here, even if some have expressed some concern about the whole 16 megapixel setup. I’d really want to see how the picture quality turns out before really issuing a judgment on these, but they still look nice.

Sony will be pre-selling these later this month, and at some pretty fair prices for what all you get: the HX9V is set to retail at $350, while the HX100V will tack on an extra $100 for the longer zoom and the manual controls.
