Big ISPs Want To Charge Per-GB For Usage Of Netflix & YouTube
And so it begins. Major internet service providers (ISPs) are starting to talk about the need to charge per GB for use when discussing streaming video sites such as YouTube and Netflix. Some of the major ISPs are even claiming they will need to charge as much as 3.7 cents per GB.

This 3.7 cents per GB would actually be charged to the internet companies such as Netflix themselves but it’s a safe bet that charge would be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher monthly rates for the service. The alternative, according to ISPs like Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and France Telecom is to charge internet users fees that are as high as 21 percent higher than current fees.
The companies claim that if they don’t begin to charge more for internet service, especially for sites that stream video and are incredibly popular that the internet will clog during peak traffic times.
