Sony To Implement Cloud Saving On PS3?

Rumors Say Sony May Introduce Cloud Saving Service To PS3 Users With Firmware Update 3.60

Reports coming from Kotaku say that Sony may be looking to implement a cloud saving service on PS3 with an upcoming firmware update. Kotaku’s source told them that Sony had been informing developers about the service, which would allow gamers to upload saves to a remote server, thus freeing up space on their hard drives and allowing them to access their saves from any PS3 console.

The service is rumored to be included in Sony’s upcoming firmware update 3.60, though there isn’t any confirmation from Sony yet. While it sounds like a great idea, there are a couple of drawbacks – namely that Sony would only make the service available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, and that they would allow companies to opt out of letting players save their games to the cloud save servers.

We’ll be sure to let you know if Sony confirms that this will indeed be included in firmware update 3.60. In the meantime, what do you think – is this a good idea, or something you can live without?
